Drove up to Crater lake and they had plowed out two viewing locations so we got to see a lot of it without having to snowshoe in. Dogs were unimpressed, Pearl is not a fan of the wax I put on her paws to protect them from the snow. It was beautiful, and here are some of my favorite facts about this national park:
-Established 1902 one of our oldest national parks
-Size: 183,000 acres
-Annual visitation: 700,000 people
-Lake depth: 1,943 feet
-Lake volume: 5 TRILLION gallons
-Last time the lake froze over: 1949
-Deepest lake in the USA
-Fed exclusively by rain and snow (no rivers or streams flow in or out)
-considered the cleanest and clearest body of water IN THE WORLD
-formed from a volcano collapsing
-one of the snowiest inhabited places in America
If I ever get to come back I would totally try and time it when I could take one of their limited on the water boat tours, I think actually being out on that water would be AMAZING.
