El Capitan state beach camping
Pros: accessible, beautiful, some secluded camp sites if reserved early enough, cell service, friendly camp hosts, dog friendly, fuck ton of amenities: running water, bathrooms, showers, firewood sold on premises, parking spots, fire pits and picnic tables. Sam cooked the most flavorful tritip slowly over the fire for THREE HOURS and it was DELICIOUS.
Cons: dogs can’t go on the beach, many close campsites with heavy trafficked cars and people. Typical CA right close quarters.
Dog features: dogs on leash always, only on paved roads, no dogs on beach
Plants: lots of poison oak! Cool giant ice plants!
Local activities: near by off leash dog beach arroyo burrow beach county park
Lessons learned: Sam says ear plugs are great for lessening the aggravation of loud-no boundaries children from neighboring camp sites. Rachel was surprised at how easy it was to cook with Sam’s two burner propane stove. Pearl still has a bias against pugs, and Rocko believes the no human food for dogs rule is utter nonsense.
